Media Outreach FAQ

You are here: Home / Media Outreach FAQ

Publicity can be terrible.  But only if you don’t have any.  ~Jane Russell

What is the Media Outreach service?

Using your keywords, industry, location and target demographic, we search for, qualify and list media outlets and journalists reporting on your topics/services/products.

How many media sources are on each list?

Ten.  Each source comes with an URL, email, short description of the site, targeted keywords and any other relevant email or URL.  We also provide a basic “how-to” that includes email templates you can use when contacting journalists, suggestions on what to do and how to offer your content so it will be used.

Will you resell my list to someone else after giving it to me?

We do not compile and sell lists in the same keyword industry at the same time and leave a 30-day grace period between orders.  For example, if you contract for a list of travel news outlets, we won’t reuse those sources for 30 days starting from the day we deliver the list to you.  Given the way we work and the care we take to find unique sites, this doesn’t happen often.

What kind of sites are on the lists?

Each Media Outreach list is customed tailored to your keywords and/or your industry, location or demographic.  We find offline as well as online newspapers, magazines, opinion blogs, TV, radio plus much more.

Do all these sources accept content?

Yes, they are news sites. We look for sites that feature content using your keywords or that talk about your industry.  Some sites accept written content, others may take images, infographics or videos.  If the site has never featured content on your topic, we won’t list it.

So you don’t guarantee the site will accept our press releases, content or pitches?

No, we don’t.  We don’t know what type or the quality of the of content or news releases you plan to offer so we can’t guarantee anyone will take it. We provide sources, we give you tips on how to approach them, it’s up to you to wow them with your newsworthy content.

Tell me a little about the journalists you find, how can they help me?

If there are reporters in your industry who are writing/talking about your industry, it’s a good idea to get on their radar.  Why?  Reporters are influencers and are influential because they share good information and impart credibility on sources they cite.  Reporters want and need good content and newsworthy information in order to look smart and continue to produce stories so it’s a good idea to get in front of them, offer up your best stuff and benefit from their reach.

How long does it take to get a list of sources?

It usually takes five business days although a lot depends on your industry.  Sometimes we get it done in three days, most of the time it takes five business days.  If we think it will go longer than five business days, we’ll reach out.

What happens if I don’t like one of the sources you find?

You can reject one source on the list and we will replace it but you need a pretty good reason why it’s not acceptable. Occasionally we list a site you already partner with, in that case, we’ll replace the link once you point the site out.  But if you tell us you just don’t like it and provide no other reason, we will not replace the link and will not refund money.

We take great care to find and list sources we feel would be good media partners.  Not everything on the list will be Wall Street Journal quality, we strive to get a variety of sites so you benefit from the reach and diversity they provide.  We do not list crappy news sites or Adsense type blogs.

Are list prices set or do they change based on keyword factors?

Our rates do change based on the complexity of the industry and/or your keyword sets.  We will always give you a quote before starting a service.

When is payment due?

We ask you pay for your Media Outreach list when the contract is signed.  We use PayPal or you can send a company check snail-mail.  We will not release lists until after the check has cleared.

How do you deliver the list of sources?

We send them via email in an Excel spreadsheet.
