Link Sources FAQ (Directory FAQ is here)
“You can do anything, but not everything” ~David Allen
What exactly is the Link Sources service?
Using your keywords, your industry, and target demographic, the Link Sources service is a link prospecting service, it does two things:
- We find relevant sources to host your content, and
- Influential people, you can use to help you promote it.
How many link sources are included on each list?
Ten. You get ten URLs plus the other elements listed under each package.
How many lists can you purchase?
That depends on the industry. Some industries are much easier to find sources for because there are more bloggers, news outlets, and educational outlets in them. Some are not, it’s why we sell lists in lots of 10. If we have a really hard time creating the first list of ten sources, there’s a good chance we’ll say no to a second list.
Do you say no often?
Not often, but occasionally it happens. We won’t add low-quality websites to our lists, if we get into a niche and find a lot of junk, we limit the number of lists we sell.
Will you resell my list to someone else after giving it to me?
We do not compile and sell lists in the same keyword industry at the same time and leave a 30-day grace period between orders. For example, if you contract for a list of travel bloggers, we won’t reuse those sources for 30 days starting from the day we deliver the list to you. Given the way we work and the care we take to find unique sites, this doesn’t happen often.
What kind of sites are on the lists?
Each Link Source list is customed tailored to your keywords and/or your industry. We prospect for media outlets, business sites, social platforms, academic and government portals plus much more.
What is the difference between Link Sources and your Media Outreach service?
Our Link Sources list may contain a news outlet or two but does not list individual reporters or focus just on media sites. The Media Outreach service only focuses on media/news/reporting/opinion (op-ed) sites, every source link we find will be from a news site.
Do all these sources accept content?
All of the sites we prospect for and list host content using your keywords, we look for sites that feature content using your keywords or that talk about your industry. Most of them accept guest submissions. Some sites accept written content, others may take images, infographics or videos. If the site has never featured guest content we won’t list it but if they have, or they are a news outlet quoting sources, it makes the list.
So you don’t guarantee the site will accept our content or links?
No, we don’t. We don’t know what type or the quality of the of content you plan to offer so we can’t guarantee anyone will take it. We provide sources, we give you tips on how to approach them, it’s up to you to wow them with your content.
Can you find sources that only accept videos or infographics?
Yes, we can.
Tell me a little about the influencers you find, how can they help me?
If there are people in your industry who are highly visible on social and traditional media, it’s a good idea to get on their radar. Why? Influencers are influential because they share good information, they want and need good content in order to keep looking smart. Get in front of them, offer up your best stuff and you’ll benefit from their reach. Keep in mind influencers can be celebrities, industry famous, super fans, paid shills and star reviewers. We find them all.
How long does it take to get a list of sources?
It usually takes five business days although a lot depends on how hard your keyword are. Sometimes we get it done in three days, most of the time it takes five business days. We’ve taken as long as two weeks in the past but that is really rare. If it goes past five business days it’s usually because you have really competitive (hard) keywords and we’re having a hard time finding quality outlets. We will let you know what’s going on if it goes past five days.
What happens if I don’t like one of the sources you find?
You can reject one source on the list and we will replace it but you need a pretty good reason why it’s not acceptable. Occasionally we list a site you already partner with, in that case, we’ll replace the link once you point the site out. But if you tell us you just don’t like it and provide no other reason, we will not replace the link and will not refund money.
We take great care to find and list sources we feel would be good content/link partners. Not everything on the list will be Harvard Business Review quality, you’ll find most of the sites run by hard-working bloggers and media outlets who appreciate good content and guest bloggers. Offer them material that’s different, fresh and unique and you’ll get more “yeses” than “no’s”.
Are list prices set or do they change based on keyword factors?
Our rates do change based on the complexity of the industry and/or your keyword sets. We will always give you a quote before starting a service.
When is payment due?
We ask you pay for your Link Sources list when the contract is signed. We use PayPal or you can send a company check snail-mail. We will not release lists until after the check has cleared.
How do you deliver the list of sources?
We send them via email in an Excel spreadsheet.
